PROJECT : LAO PDR Collaborations / Partnerships.

First Meeting of the Collaboration Programme

Vientiane, May 30, 2007.

Organised in collaboration with the Lao PDR Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Public Health

Objectives : Synthesys of needs and priorities of the Collaboration Partners.

Location: Conference room of NIOPH, Vientiane , Laos

 Chairman : Assoc. Prof Dr Kongsab Akkhavong, Vice Director of NIOPH

Participants: Representatives of Training and Human Human Resource MOPH, Representatives of NIOPH, Representatives of Public Health School, Representatives of College of Health Technology, Representatives of Mother and Child Health Hospital, Representatives of Faculty of Medicine, Representatives of IFMT, Representative of IRD, Representative of UNFPA-in total 9 institutes and 28 participants.

AIM : :To establish a draft curriculum on Reproductive Health and Sexual Health issues on the postgraduate level, it will be use to train the both key local and referral level in collaboration between several institutions’ Laotian partners and Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research of Switzerland.

Summary

Discussion and information sharing with several health institutions, the meeting contents may identify main key topics issues:

  1. Improving and develop more on midwife and nursing at theTraining for Teacher level.
  2. Improving and develop the birth attendance with aim to serve and reduce maternal mortality in rural zone.
  3. Training for practical direct service such as: family planning, mother and child health service, abortion, STI HIV and all complications in gyneco obstetric issues.
  4. Research methodology skill for scientific development and data analysis.
  5. The training should focus more on the local level (provincial and district level) to adapt more in realistic condition.

 

The post graduate training may need more consult to Mother and Child Health Center in addition to Preventive Medicine Department of Ministry of Health to understand more context and policy on Mother and Child Health Policy and its priorities.
